FA(3) field reference

P_8B in FA(3): the quantity

How to fill P_8B (the quantity) on each FaWiersz of a KSeF FA(3) invoice: required, decimal format and a valid XML example.

Updated

Overview

P_8B is the quantity of the item on one line of the invoice (in Polish, "ilość"). It lives inside each FaWiersz block and, together with the unit net price in P_9A, determines the line's net value.

P_8B is required on every line. It is a decimal field, so you can bill fractional quantities: 0.5 hours, 2.25 kilograms, or 1.5 units are all acceptable. The decimal separator is a dot, not a comma, because the value sits inside an XML document. There is no fixed number of decimal places, but in practice two or three are enough for almost any real-world billing need.

The quantity is multiplied by the unit net price (P_9A) to produce the line's net value (P_11), which is then rounded before the VAT is calculated. This means P_8B is not just descriptive — a wrong quantity directly changes the amounts on the invoice, so it is one of the fields worth double-checking before submission.

A common mistake is to swap P_8A and P_8B, putting the unit label where the number should go, or to leave P_8B out because the line is a flat fee. If a line is a flat fee, use quantity 1 and set the unit net price to the fee amount; do not omit the quantity.

In Notaly you send the quantity as the quantity property of a line item. Notaly multiplies quantity by unitNetPrice to compute the line value, then writes P_8B, P_9A and P_11 into the FA(3) XML. If quantity is missing or zero, the API rejects the payload with a 422 validation error before it reaches KSeF, so you never lose a sandbox invoice to that mistake.

A complete, valid FA(3) example appears below, with P_8B filled on both lines.
